MARTIN Gramática

Early

Martin, the eldest of the Gramática brothers, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he grew up playing soccer. He did not kick American footballs until moving to the US, and playing in his Senior year at La Belle High School in La Belle, Florida. That year he made such an impact that he was recruited by Kansas State University where he made 54 out of 70 field goals and 187-192 PATs gaining a school record of 349 points in four seasons. He also set the single-season school record with 135 points, thereby earning him the nickname "Automatica".

Martin was a first-team All-America choice by the Associated Press both his junior and senior years and received the Lou Groza Award in 1998. Notably, he was 3-3 on field goals from 50+ yards his junior year, and as a senior kicked a phenomenal 65-yarder against Northern Illinois – the longest field goal in college and professional football history kicked without a tee. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in social science in May 1999.

NFL Career

Martin Gramática has had a storied career in the NFL where he is respected as one of the best kickers in the game. He was selected in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and that first season, led all NFL rookies with 106 points and was named to the All-Rookie Team by Pro Football Weekly, College and Pro Football Newsweekly and Football Digest. The following season he earned a Pro Bowl nod and was selected to the Associated Press All-Pro second team as he broke or tied six Buccaneer single-season kicking records. In 2002, he set single-season team records for successful field goals (32) and points (128), and became the first Argentinian-American in history to win a Super Bowl when Tampa Bay won Super Bowl XXXVII. In 2003, he led the Buccaneers in points for the fifth straight season, totaling 81 points.

Since leaving the Bucs, Martin has played with the Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys (, in hiscdebut with the Dallas Cowboys, Gramatica kicked the game-winning field goal from 46-yards out against the New York Giants, leaving 00:01 on the clock and the Dallas team celebrating on the sideline), New England Patriots, and now the New Orleans Saints where on December 23rd, 2007 he matched his last personal long field goal of 55 yards just before halftime in a pivotal game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Martin was also the starter for the 2001NFC Pro Bowl team.


BILL Gramática

Football

The middle brother, Bill was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and moved to Florida when he was a boy. He grew up playing soccer and began kicking footballs at La Belle High School in La Belle, Florida. At La Belle he was twice a First Team All-American and a member of the Florida-Georgia All-Star team.

Bill attended the University of South Florida where he was the starting kicker from 1998-2000. He was a two-time All American, and once kicked a 63 yard field goal which, at the time was the second longest field goal in college football history - behind older brother Martin's 65 yarder at Kansas State (current record is 67 yards). Bill graduated in 2000 with a degree in Communications.

After graduation he was drafted into the NFL by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played three seasons with Arizona, and also spent time with the New York Giants and the Miami Dolphins.

In the NFL he was five times named NFC player of the week, and eight times he was named player of the week for the Arizona Cardinals.

Football

USF Bulls

Santiago, the youngest of the Gramatica brothers, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He attended La Belle High School in La Belle, Florida where he handled kicking and punting duties and was recognized as one of the top three rated kickers in the state.

After high school he attended USF and moved right into the starting kicker spot vacated by brother Bill, who graduated and was drafted into the NFL.

Starting all four years at USF, Santiago holds numerous records, including:

  • Leading scorer in USF football history (246 points)
  • Most field goals made in a season (16)
  • Most field goals made in a college career (38)
  • Most career PAT’s made (132).
  • Highest percentage of field goals in USF history
  • Lou Groza Award Semi Finalist,
  • 2003 Lou Groza Award Watch List
  • 9 time USF Special Teams player of the week
  • Conference USA Academic Medal winner
  • 100% accuracy in overtime fieldgoals and PATs

Upon graduation with a degree in Communications, Santiago played professional football in the Arena Football League for the AF2 Florida Firecats.

Currently, Santiago hosts and manages Gramatica Kicking & Punting Camps in Tampa, Florida.
